TVLok Changelog

What changed in the latest TVLok releases for Android TV, Fire TV, phones, and tablets.

Current Android release

TVLok 1.0.190

  • Stalker portals: when one portal address answers with access refused (403), sign-in now tries the other addresses the portal can be reached at, including a portal that moved to a new host. When a portal turns this box away, TVLok now reports that refusal, not a server error.
  • Stalker portals: when a portal ends your session (it answers Unauthorized request), TVLok signs in again once and retries. Screens that ask at the same time share that one sign-in.
  • Auto-start on boot: Android 10 and newer need Display over other apps before an app can open itself when the TV is switched on. Settings > General > Auto-start on boot now shows whether Display over other apps is on, with Open settings or Allow. TVLok only asks when you turn Auto-start on boot on.
  • Guide: the guide is now read once when TVLok starts. Before, every playlist's guide could be read a second time right after. Your refresh interval is unchanged.
  • Notifications: Notifications in the menu now opens a panel that reads No notifications right now when there is nothing to show. Before, nothing happened.
  • Clock: every time on the TV, such as the player clock, the channel schedule, timers, recordings and Search, now follows Settings > Live TV & Guide > Time format. Until you choose a format in TVLok, it follows the 12 or 24 hour clock set in the TV's own settings.
  • Playback: a channel whose sound arrives with timestamps that stand still, such as ABC East on the Google TV Streamer, no longer stutters, freezes the picture or drops frames. Other channels are not touched.
  • DVR: Back from the DVR now opens the menu with the DVR still on show, not the screen TVLok started on. Back from Search opened from the menu also returns to the menu.
  • DVR: Watch from beginning on a recording that was cut into parts now starts at the first part. If the first part cannot start, the latest part plays from the beginning.
  • Live TV: a channel number typed while the guide list is on screen now tunes the channel the list shows for that number. With Count from 1 in each category, the number is the channel's place in the list. The Show channel numbers text now says what the app does.
  • Live TV: OK on a guide row now counts as switching to that channel, so after A, B, C by OK, hold Back goes to B.
  • Guide: in a custom group that mixes playlists, each playlist's own programmes show as soon as they are read, and rows already on screen are never cut back.
  • Guide: category names now show whole in the Live TV side panel and in the Movies and Shows drop-down, on two lines when needed.
  • Sports: Back from Watch in Live TV returns to Sports with the same game still playing in the panel.
  • Sports: a replay channel that was still showing an earlier game at kickoff is now listed as a possible channel. The replay start follows the panel's time zone.
  • Sports: when you have turned off every league of a sport, such as all soccer, a league added later starts off.

A faster start, a TV guide that reads every guide address and fills itself from your provider when the guide file fails, Side panel navigation for the guide, Movies and Shows, per-profile colors, and Auto format recovery for Xtream Live. Includes everything since 1.0.112.

Startup and library updates

  • The automatic library update no longer starts the moment the app opens, so the Live guide, Home, Movies and Shows load first. The update runs a few minutes later or in the background as before.
  • A provider that answers the channel list with an account message (expired or blocked line) now stops with a clear playlist status instead of retrying the import for hours. Index-style list responses from some panels are read correctly.

TV guide

  • Guide addresses advertised in an M3U playlist header are read in every common spelling, including comma-separated lists. The first becomes the guide and the others are fetched with it.
  • A playlist whose guide comes from its login or link no longer shows TV Guide Off in Playlists & Sources.
  • For panel sources, the guide fills a full screen of channels from the provider's per-channel schedule when the full guide file is missing, incomplete or failing, instead of a few rows per screen. Results are kept for 30 minutes.
  • Fullscreen Live TV shows current program progress, remaining time and catch-up availability where guide data exists, with a quiet Up next countdown before a consecutive program.

Navigation

  • Choose Side panel or Dropdown category navigation. Side panel is the default when no choice has been saved and the choice is saved with your profile.
  • Browse playlists and categories beside the Live guide, Movies and Shows while keeping the existing preview visible. Moving Up or Down through Movies and Shows categories previews the results while focus stays on the category. Right enters them.
  • Hold Left in the Side panel to reach Search. Short Back closes the current view or moves up one level. Holding Back returns to fullscreen for the Live channel already playing.
  • On-screen keyboard keys now ignore a stray OK release, which stops the occasional letter typed when opening Live Search on some remotes.

Appearance

  • Customize the background, accent, selection color and interface transparency per profile on this device, with an option to restore the original appearance. Colors carry through the guide, Home, Movies, Shows and player controls.
  • Update dialogs keep the title, version and action buttons visible while you scroll the complete release notes with your remote.

Playback

  • Xtream Live now defaults to Auto, which can try another provider-supported TS or HLS format after an eligible startup failure. Your previous format remains the preferred first attempt.
  • Fixed starting some episodes from the beginning when a provider rejects the initial byte-range request. Stops repeated automatic retries for HTTP 511 failures. Improved Multiview pane-menu access and recorder recognition for devices using TV mode or Force TV view.

Playlists and sync

  • Improved Favorites reordering and playlist-metadata sync when requests are retried or another device changes the same data. Rejected settings changes no longer replay automatically forever.
  • Supported import, playback, sync and sign-in failures can be reported to support from the app, with sensitive connection details redacted.

Rename categories with your own names, Update all playlists from every playlist panel, a sign-in that stays put, sync status in Settings, and fixes for many-season shows, panels that answered HTTP 512 and catalogs that shrank on a refresh.

Fixes

  • Series page: Down from Resume reaches the seasons and episodes on shows with more seasons than fit across the screen. Opening a show from Continue Watching with a resume in a later season used to leave the remote stuck on Resume. The season row now scrolls the selected season into view and always has somewhere for Down to land.
  • Series pages on panels that gate on the player's identity load again. The series-info call now sends the same identity as the catalog import and retries like it does. A panel that rejects every request from a device still shows the error it answers with.
  • Catalogs no longer shrink when a panel returns a short category list during a refresh. If the hidden-category rule would drop a large share of a catalog, the app fetches the categories again and keeps those shows and movies instead of losing them.

New

  • Rename category: give any provider category your own name, per profile. Live TV: long-press the category in the guide and choose Rename category; Use provider name puts the original back. Movies and Shows: open Manage categories, select one category, then Rename category or Use provider name.
  • The new name shows in the guide sidebar, the category sheet, the Movies and Shows sidebar and the grid header, and syncs across your devices. Hide, lock and order keep working on a renamed category.
  • Update all playlists leads the playlist panel on Live TV, Movies and Shows and sits inside every playlist's own panel, so a full refresh is one step from any of them.

Sync and sign-in

  • Your sign-in stays put. The app now proves which device it is refreshing from, and only a named rejection from the server ends a session. A cloud hiccup, a deploy window or a slow network no longer signs you out.
  • Settings > General & Device shows Live updates, whether this device is receiving changes from your other devices right now, and Sync problems, any change the server refused and why, for every profile on the device. Sync now retries them.
  • Coming back to the app quietly re-checks your session in the background, so an expired session is renewed before you press anything.
  • During a full sync, a provider that is down no longer holds up your other playlists.

Remote fixes in full screen, a Home button that leaves the app, a new settings layout, and a History lane in the live guide.

Fixes

  • The remote works again inside Recent Channels, History and the channel list when full screen was opened from the guide. Recent Channels moves with Left and Right; History moves with Up and Down.
  • Pressing Home on TV now leaves the app instead of shrinking the channel into a floating window. Picture-in-picture on Home is off by default and can be turned on in Settings.
  • On the side menu, Up from the top row wraps to Exit and Down from Exit wraps to the top row.
  • Start in fullscreen player applies when the app starts. Returning to Live TV from another section opens the guide.
  • On a series page, Down from the season chips always reaches the episodes, including when the row is scrolled to where you left off.

New

  • Settings are grouped into nine sections with subtitles, including a new Live TV & Guide screen and a single audio output picker. Account now holds subscription, backup, sync and sign out.
  • Hold Back in full screen to jump to the previous channel, and hold again to come back. A short Back press still leaves full screen.
  • The live guide gains a History lane under All Playlists, next to Favorites, with your merged watch order and no duplicates.
  • Recordings on Home show clearer states: stopped and partly saved captures are never marked failed, saved rows show length and start time, and failures collapse into one chip.

Improvements

  • The guide rail keeps a focused row in an empty lane, and presses during the cross-playlist preview land one row per press.
  • Guide schedule fallback fetches far less from the provider when switching categories.
  • Fire TV Cube: background work is bounded while an import runs, so the app is no longer killed and restarted every 30 seconds in the background.
  • The catalog database drops redundant indexes, which lowers import cost. Large custom groups and hidden lists no longer hit a database limit.

A hotfix for in-app updates on Fire TV and Google TV. It includes everything in 1.0.102.

Fixes

  • The in-app Download and install button works again on Fire TV and Google TV. Builds 1.0.100 to 1.0.102 wrongly reported that no package installer was available before the download started.
  • Back in the live guide reaches the exit prompt again after watching a channel, Back from fullscreen returns to the lane the channel was opened from, and the side menu has an Exit entry (from 1.0.102).

Watching and browsing

  • Improved Live TV guide navigation, playlist switching, and remote controls.
  • More reliable live, catch-up, movie, and series playback, with improvements to pause, seek, resume, and TV viewing options.
  • Improved Movies and Shows browsing, details, and Continue Watching.
  • A refreshed Home screen brings favorites, recordings, and recent additions together, with new episode discovery and optional alerts in Settings.
  • Search now includes TV programs alongside channels, movies, and shows.

New episode alerts

  • Add shows to Favorites to follow them. Shows you have started watching are included automatically too.
  • On Android TV, Fire TV, phones, and tablets, open Settings > General, scroll to Notifications, and check that New episode alerts is on. It is enabled by default and is set separately on each device.
  • On phones and tablets, also turn on Allow notifications in that section and accept the Android permission prompt.
  • Newly detected episodes appear under Home > New episodes. Supported devices can also show a notification.
  • This works with supported Xtream playlists. TVLok checks periodically, so alerts are not instant. The first check records the episodes already available; later checks detect new additions.

Setup and everyday improvements

  • Easier first-time setup, clearer playlist management, and better playlist compatibility.
  • More efficient playlist and guide updates, with clearer progress and status information.
  • Improved syncing of favorites, watch history, hidden items, and playlist changes across devices.
  • Recording and pause-live improvements, including better support for shared recording folders.
  • Stability, startup, and update improvements for Fire TV and Android devices, with better handling of large libraries and limited storage.

Windows and website

  • TVLok for Windows is available in public beta for Windows 10 and 11.
  • A simpler website download experience, with improvements to account, channel, and device management.

Guide-aware channel switching

  • Fullscreen Up and Down now stay inside the guide list you opened, including provider categories, Favorites, and History.
  • Super Favorites keeps its exact cross-playlist channel order instead of falling back to a provider category.
  • Preview, fullscreen playback, Back, focus restoration, and one-command-per-key behavior received focused TV fixes.

Profile-safe cloud sync

  • Favorites, watch history, search history, hidden channels, settings, PIN state, and reminders now stay bound to the exact account and profile.
  • Profile changes refresh authoritative settings and profile state while protecting newer local edits from stale acknowledgements.
  • Durable retries and stricter cache fencing improve recovery after reconnects, restarts, and account or profile switches.

Large-library reliability

  • Improved import, guide, and category handling for large multi-playlist libraries.
  • Movies and Shows browsing, details, playback return focus, Favorites, History, and Resume received regression coverage.
  • The update dialog remains scrollable on compact phone screens so its actions stay reachable.

Known issue

Hidden categories may show an internal identifier instead of the friendly category name. This is display-only and does not remove hidden-category data. Multiview remains in testing and is not part of this release.
